There was a time when the “Brooke Shields” eyebrows were very much the desired look. Instead of a clean, thin and barely-there line that emphasizes immaculate eyebrow grooming, a more plush—even bushy–look came into being. The style displayed power, and it worked to maintain a defined face frame. Brows were indeed the curtains to the eyes.
Suddenly, with the emergence of different, well-known models gracing the pages of elite fashion magazines with nearly invisible eyebrows, the new look has become a trend.
There is indeed a unifying element to having no eyebrows or, at least, well-hidden ones. Instead of risking the over-plucked or under-plucked look and receiving judgment, there is instead something ethereal, even cerebral, about the disappearance of the brow. The face becomes somewhat mechanical and colder. It’s very much a modern, intense look that creates an almost inhuman quality to the face.
However, with the right makeup and outfit, the anti-eyebrow movement takes strides toward a cool, unique wave of beauty. By removing a part of the face considered to be traditionally beautiful, the standard changes completely. This is how the beauty industry evolves with the rest of the world, by upturning the norm.
How does one wear the no-eyebrow look? With a rock star eye. Mush a gray or brown pencil around the eye line to create a less intense, yet still strong, smoky eye. Follow with plenty of mascara.
