Tip: The trick to achieving a sultry smokey eye without looking like a panda is placement. When applying black eye shadow be very careful not to take it up to high into the crease. You want to keep it on the lid and the lower part of the crease. The higher part of the crease you want to stick to cool tone transition shades like MAC’s wedge eye shadow.

Glitter, Glitter, Glitter!

This trend is all about the sparkle! Glitter on your eyebrows, your eye lids, and cheekbones. This sparkly goodness was seen on the runway for designers such as: Emanuel Ungaro

and Giambattista Valli.

Wearing glitter is no easy feat. If not applied properly it can be messy and quite a task to make it stay put. But never fear, we have some tips to help make it easier to wear this trend!
Tip 1: When using glitter, you need a glitter adhesive which will help to keep it in place all day. Too Faced Cosmetics Glitter Glue is among one of the best glitter adhesives on the market. It’s easy to apply, and a little bit goes a long way. Apply a small amount and work on one eye at a time. It dries fast so if you apply it to both eyes at the same time, by the time you finish putting glitter on one eye the other one will already be dry and the glitter won’t stick.

Tip 2: Apply glitter in patting motions, do not swipe! Swiping causes a lot of fallout and you’ll end up with glitter under your eyes and all over your face instead of just on your eyes, and it is a pain to get off. You’ll spend hours just picking off the little pieces!

Gothic Chic:
While dark lips are a normal staple for the Fall and Winter, this year’s looks didn’t just include wines and burgundies, but varying shades of rich deep blacks as well. The twist on this timeless classic was in the finish. Some of the looks featured a high gloss finish over the rich velvety texture of the dark lipsticks. We usually see high gloss as a Spring/Summer staple, but it has now transcended into Fall and Winter. This gothic chic look appeared in fashion powerhouse shows such as Dior.

Tip 1: To keep your dark lipstick from bleeding, apply a lip liner. Outline your lips first then fill them in completely with the liner. After that apply your dark lipstick over top. This will help to keep the lipstick from smudging since it acts as a base giving the lipstick something to stick to.

Tip 2: If you want to apply a gloss on top of dark lipsticks make sure to do the steps from Tip 1 first. After that apply a thin coat of gloss to your lips making sure to not get it to close to the perimeter. Gloss can smudge easily, so if you apply it right up to the edge of where your lip liner is it can bleed over. With gloss think less is more. It’s thick, so a little goes a long way.

Graphic Eyeliner
This look is all about creativity and precise lines. Various geometric shapes and crisp winged eyeliner looks made an appearance on the runway for Kenzo.

Whether you are getting super creative and are doing a geometric shape or just your average sharp-as -a knife wing, what products you use can make the difference between an amazing eyeliner look or a hot mess.

Tip: Make sure to use an eyeliner with a pointed tip. MAC has a set of graphic eyeliners that are easy to use and apply like a dream. The pointed tip allows for optimal precision so you can take your eye liner from good to slay status!

Pops of Color
Traditionally when we think of Fall and Winter we think deep, rich, dark colors. This year however, on the runway we saw pops of teal, hot pinks, and neon yellows! Fendi was just one of the designer powerhouses to add this fun 80s vibe into the mix.

Tip: If you want to have a pop of color but do not want to look like you stepped straight out of the 80’s use only one bold color at a time. For example, you could use a green mascara from MAC or add a pop of teal eye shadow from Makeup Geek to your lower lash line . If you do not feel comfortable doing a bright color on the eye, you can always opt for a bold color on your lips, like a bright pink from NARS!

Red lip!
Red is a timeless classic. It’s perfect for any season, and is a great way to add a touch of glamour to any look.

The trick for this trend is to make sure to find the right shade of red for your skin tone. Illamasqua has come up with an easy to follow chart to make sure you pick the best shade of red for your skin tone!

Tip: Red can seem daunting but the trick to making it look beautiful it to keep everything else minimal. For example, you can do a simple black winged eyeliner and pair it with your red lip to give yourself that classic pinup vibe.

Find a trend you like and make it your own, the possibilities are endless!
