The annual Cannes Film Festival was not just about celebrating achievements in cinema, it’s all about showing off the hottest looks.
This is the 68th event and is being held in South of France. A-List celebrities attended the 11 day festival that runs from May 13 to May 24 in only the best designer gowns.
Polish model Anja Rubik made headlines with her Atelier Versace gown from the spring 2015 collection. The black gown had a spider web type mesh across the front of it, that lead down the side of her left leg. What really shocked fans was the fact that this gown required no underwear to be worn with it.
She paired the couture gown with strappy black high heels, with a similar woven pattern.
Cate Blanchett had an equally eye-catching gown made by designer Giles Deacon. The gown was strapless, with a large bow in the back, and large ruffles around the lower half of the dress. The most interesting part of it was the print. The dress featured purple, white and black colors in what is being described as a galaxy print.
Deacon told The Telegraph, “I was waiting at home to see everything start popping up on social media. You never know till you know in this game. The response has been overwhelmingly fantastic.”
Deacon went on to say that he was happy that out of all of her options Blanchett chose his gown to wear.
Kendall Jenner took to Instagram to post some of her looks from the Cannes. On Wednesday she posted a few different photos of herself on the red carpet swirling in her black two piece gown. The second photo was of her sprawled out across the front of a boat captioning it, “Princess K (that’s the boats name) (really)”.
A third photo revealed that the dress was by Azzedine Alaia, a French designer. The photo revealed more details in the dress such as the sheerness of the fabric and the crossing patterns that could not normally be seen head-on. A red lip added the perfect pop of color to her dark look.
The Jenner’s dress from Thursday was a magenta gown by Calvin Klein that showed off the same amount of her midriff. The gown was long and flowing, and photos of her were taken while she was posing on the steps.
Mindy Kaling made a statement in her bold colored gown. The actress was in honor of Inside Out, which she is a voice actor for. Her outfit consisted of a pink Salvador Perez crop top and a violet skirt with a slit up the side, and a train following behind her.
What would normally be viewed as a casual look was dressed up with accessories. Kaling posted an Instagram photo of her skirt and shoes captioning it, “My @Salvadorperezcostumes gown has over three thousand hand sewn crystals!”
This is a detail that can only really be seen with an up close view of her outfit.
Isabeli Fontana, Melanie Laurent and Emma Miller all seemed to have the right idea with their crystal encrusted dresses. Each varied in design, but had sheer fabric along the front to show peeks of skin.
Salma Hayek chose a busy pattern for her Alexander McQueen gown from the 2013 Resort collection. She kept the colors simple choosing black and gold, and a snack bracelet coiled around her upper left bicep. She completed the look with thick black heels, and a black and gold clutch.
Of course these are only a few of the looks that have been worn so far, with a few days left in the festival, even more thrilling outfits have yet to come.
