Feathery Frocks That Add Fun to Your Wardrobe

Newsflash: feathers are awesome. From the forever-lovable Big Bird (we love you too, Elmo), to the crazy-covetable pieces found below, feathers deserve to be a greater part of your wardrobe. Contrary to what you may think, you can wear feathers to a non-black-tie affair (I know, it’s crazy). As a general rule of thumb, keep the outfit simple, elegant, and tasteful (no feather-happy boho headbands or peacock-emblazoned earrings…no). These five pieces are all of that, and will make you seem crazy chic, rather than just crazy.

Haute Hippie Feather-Bottom Sweatshirt Dress: This half-sweatshirt, half-feathery dress is a lazy girl’s dream. It’s comfortable, distinctive, and requires minimal styling effort. Just add black ankle booties and a leather jacket (and tights so you don’t freeze) so you look super-cool in five minutes flat. Or, if you’re feeling sporty (as everyone seems to be these days), pair this dress with white sneakers and a nylon vest. Done.

Ralph Lauren Feather-Fringed Skirt: This skirt will be your new best friend for several reasons. One, when paired with a white collared shirt and sparkly jewels, you can walk through any cocktail party looking elegant, understated, and very Chanel. Two, its flattering color (black) and fit (pencil) will look good on almost every body type. Three, all you need to do to dress it down is tuck in a gray cotton t-shirt (crew necks preferred) and flats of your choosing. The moment you get this skirt, believe us, you will want to rock it everywhere.

Tibi Cera Tuxedo Feather Trim Blazer: We are all for blazers, don’t get us wrong. They go with everything, make your outfit instantly more appropriate, and never fall out of style. But sometimes a girl needs a change of pace (or coat). This feather-friendly version is sophisticated, the right amount of flair, and (to be honest) it’s super fun. Pair it with your usual office uniform of oxford, heels, and trousers, or get more creative with jeans and T-strap heels (add a sleek pony to complete your look).

No. 21 Ostrich Feather Sweatshirt: Haute sweatshirts are huge for so many reasons: comfort and style being two big ones. So of course the addition of a feathery collar would make this one a must have for the comfy-chic chicks. Gray jeans and boots put the focus on the feathers, but not so much so that your awesome style goes overlooked.

Jocelyn Marabou Feather Vest: Vests are a fall time essential. They keep you warm, cute, and a black feathery one (like this one), will last a lifetime. Layer it over chambray shirts, leather-trimmed shirts/dresses, or with a long-sleeved thermal and jeans for an easy (and warm) outfit.
