Universal Pictures has officially released the first teaser trailer for Fifty Shades Darker, the second film in the Fifty Shades of Grey film series. The teaser is only 20 seconds long, but it is just enough to preview Dakota Johnson, who portrays Anastasia Steele trying on an intricate masquerade mask.
Universal Pictures have stated all around the web their intentions to release a worldwide debut trailer for the upcoming Fifty Shades film tomorrow. The teaser video and official theatrical film poster have the tagline “Slip into Something a Shade Darker” to lure fans back to theaters next year.
James Foley, who is known for directing Netflix’s House of Cards, is expected to direct Fifty Shades Darker and also the upcoming third film in the franchise Fifty Shades Freed. Niall Leonard, who is E.L. James’ husband, is also pegged to write the screenplay for the upcoming two films.
Sam Taylor-Johnson, who previously directed Fifty Shades of Grey, was onboard to do the film’s two sequels, but due to creative disagreements with author E.L. James, she decided to back out of the film series. The new film is set to have Dana Brunetti, Michael De Luca, E.L. James, and Marcus Viscidi as producers.
Fifty Shades Darker is set to star Jamie Dornan, Dakota Johnson, Hugh Dancy, Eric Johnson, Kim Basinger, Jennifer Ehle, Luke Grimes, Bella Heathcote, Marcia Gay Harden, and Rita Ora. Principle photography has reported to be done for the Fifty Shades sequel, but Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed are also reportedly set to be filmed simultaneously due to their close premiere dates.
Even though the first film Fifty Shades instalment was given bad reviews from film critics, Fifty Shades of Grey was still a huge success in theaters that grossed over 571 million dollars worldwide.
Fifty Shades Darker is set to premiere in theaters on February 10th 2017. If the third film installment Fifty Shades Freed has no production or filming setbacks, it is expected to premiere in theaters on February 9th 2018.
