You’ve probably heard the dentist tell you this a million times, “Have you been flossing?” You’ll either answer a guilty yes, a guilty no or even utter a maybe. Here are some reasons why you have to floss:
1. You can form cavities between your teeth.
Yes, you read that right. Cavities can form not only in the pits of your teeth but also between them. Food and sugar is prone to getting stuck between teeth even if you can’t see anything there. Also, plaque builds up between your teeth even if you don’t see any food there.
2. Your gums need protecting too!
When thinking of oral care and hygiene your teeth and maybe your tongue is what you think of first, but what about your gums? Your gums are vulnerable to disease, the chance of you contracting a disease increases if you aren’t flossing. Buildup of tartar and plaque can lead to gingivitis.
3. No more waking up to an icky mouth in the morning.
Flossing prevents the buildup of tartar and plaque. If you’ve ever woken up in the morning with an icky, sticky sensation or the feeling that a blanket of guck is covering your mouth, flossing can get rid of that. That gross stuff is actually tartar in its early form, flossing the night before and morning of can help reduce tartar buildup and leave you mouth feeling normal when you wake up.
No more excuses, it’s time to floss!
