Fun, Fashionable, and Warm: Why Everyone Needs a Flannel Button-Up This Winter

It’s finally mid-winter, and (right on schedule) the cutting chill of the city streets is beginning to feel inescapable. This time of year, even the fluffiest Patagonia trench coat wont stop the brisk air from reaching your bones; no matter how many layers you try to pile underneath of it.

Chunky sweaters are starting to feel a little too chunky when paired with two other undershirts, and it seems as if dressing cute may forever be coupled with the uncomfortable feeling of constantly being cold. Don’t lose all hope, however, because this winter there’s one piece of clothing that may single-handedly stop this (personal) cold front in its tracks: the flannel button up.

Flannels have been present since Mary-Kate Olson bought her first pair of Uggs, but this winter season everyone seems to be sporting them in some way or another, and for good reason. These oversized button-ups are extremely versatile, and more importantly extremely warm. Say good-bye to five different layers, because a flannel paired with your favorite infinity scarf and a puffy, black trench coat is all you need to stay warm on that 10-minute walk to the Subway.

Try out the hipster look and pair your flannel with a Wildfox graphic tee, destroyed skinny jeans, and a black beany (maximum warmth is always appreciated). Or pull a Khloe Kardashian, and wrap that flannel around your waist—which also adds a little extra pop to that booty —for a night out at a casual restaurant with the girls.

Finally, throw on your significant other’s extra-large flannel and stay cozy on a Saturday morning by the fire, perfecting your Christmas wish list. Weather it’s for warmth or style, your flannel button up is the perfect thing to keep you happy this winter season.
