Each designer incorporated their own ideas of the characters, to reinvent their style and give Oz a new idea of fashion. Chris Benz says, elaborating on his windswept design for Dorothy said, “We were thinking about tornados and how when it’s windy in New York a piece of newspaper will just fly up in your face and how hilarious it would be to have that silhouette in blue gingham.”

On the other hand, Trina Turk sees Dorothy is a little bit different, saying that “Dorothy’s adventurous spirit represents a California girl at heart, so we updated her sweet gingham pinafore into a peplum jumpsuit layered over a ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’. The rainbow patch provides a pop of color to complement her ruby slippers.” Benz and Turk may have different views of the small-town girl, but both are guaranteed to be sensational designs. Lubov Azria’s BCBG ball gown for Glinda was inspired by her very first design for Max Azria.
Jenny Packham, along with others who designed the Wicked Witch’s costume, also strayed from the typical witch costume, saying, “Our witch is wicked in a contemporary, avant-garde way. We’ve used a print from one of my favorite collections to create a modern and fashionable witch,” as Washington and Paolo created gown to pay “homage to a Met Ball”.

See the gals of Oz in their new, reinvented and re-imagined styles on September 4th! And don’t forget to log onto Ebay for a chance to bid on your very own, one-of-a-kind, designer created doll!

I bet they’ll be super expensive but I will definitely want all of these dolls! Can’t believe it took 80 years or so for designers to think of the Wizard of Oz again
