Kiesza’s single, “Giant in My Heart”, premiered this past Fri., Jun. 13, as an exclusive, world premiere on BBC Radio 1.

Kiesza, 25, full name Kiesa Rae Ellestad, is not a typical, rising pop-star. The Canadian singer-songwriter and dancer was born in Calgary. The Canadian Army tried to recruit her as a sniper, she’s competed for Canada in the Miss Universe competition and she’s a skillful ballerina. The remarkable beauty has been working from New York City and London recently.

“Giant in My Heart” is a follow up to Kiesza’s popular single, “Hideaway”. “Hideaway” had reached number one on the UK music charts. This can be largely attributed to Annie Mac’s promotion, a DJ for BBC Radio 1. Mac absolutely loved the single and released an exclusive listen on her primetime radio show back in Jan. Mac had launched its world premiere by this time. The single also reached the Top 10 lists in Denmark, The Netherlands, Sweden and Germany. Filming for that single was an issue, however, since Kiesza had broken a rib and could barely move for a month.

“Giant in My Heart” is much more developed than “Hideaway”. Kiesza takes on a retro sound, with 90s beats and house-style vibes. The deep house record contains electro-pop characteristics, making it a very energetic single. Still, the single’s content addresses a recent breakup and the heartbreak that followed.

The newly released single is from Kiezsa’s upcoming, full-length album, which is due for release later in 2014. The debut album will be distributed by Lokal Legend Records, Kiesza’s surprisingly small label. When speaking to Idolator in Mar., Kiesza stated, “I write so much music…there’s a lot more coming.”
