Recently, it seems as though more and more people are dyeing their hair gray. People look like silver foxes all over Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest. Whether it is dyed or even just accepting your natural hair change, gray hair is in and it is breathing a whole new life. No longer is it only for elderly people, but the younger crowd has taken it and ran with it. And it looks pretty chic as well. Gray is something that makes your look more dynamic. You definitely stand out in a crowd with the gray tresses.
It is unclear where the trend started however. The IJ Review claims that Rhianna was the first to have the grey in her hair. Buzzfeed on the other hand claims it was Kylie Jenner who started the Granny look. Either way it looked great on both women. Both are also not afraid to try new looks in the first place, so it really could have been either of them. Jenner has said in her Instagram that she misses the gray in her hair. So we might be seeing a return of her gray hair in the near future.
This new hair trend relieves pressure for older women, especially in Hollywood, to have to hide their gray hair. Now that it’s being embraced by the younger generation there is no reason to hide the grays. It is just one more step in the direction of changing how the world views women. Whether this was on purpose or not things are changing for women. Especially in the media, because there has always been a stigma of women aging. They were seen as expired because they got older. Now, however, that is changing with this new hair trend. People are turning the clock ahead and no backwards.
It could be just a touch of grey or all of your hair. Long or short it doesn’t matter. It looks cool and chic regardless of length or how much it is in the hair. It was seen a lot during SXSW in Austin recently amongst the festival goers. It can be assumed that people who will be attending other festivals this summer will probably have the grey hair as well. Since it is a gathering of very unique individuals who usually attend events like Lollapalooza it wouldn’t be surprising if a lot of them turned themselves in to silver foxes.
This seems like the progression of where the hair color trends were going to end up as. Starting with brighter colors in the hair and then to pastel colors. Now here is grey hair, so it actually seems like everyone was heading here in the first place. They just needed to have the babies first before going straight grey. It is a striking look and people will notice if you have grey hair. Even with just some gray in your hair people will notice since it is such a contrast between the colors. But it is such a cool and chic look hopefully it will stick around for a while.
