Because we’re “Happy”!
Have you heard that March 20th is International Happiness Day? Pharrell has teamed up with The United Nations to promote happiness all over the world. I’m sure you can figure out how all of this started. Pharrell’s Oscar nominated song, “Happy”, created for the film “Despicable Me 2”, has become a movement all of its own. The United Nations and Pharrell have decided to embrace the popularity of the song and use it positively. Their hopes are that the #HappyDay, or the International Day of Happiness, will be embraced all over the world as a day that “recognizes the pursuit of happiness is a fundamental human goal and the need for a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes sustainable development, poverty eradication, happiness and the well being of all peoples”. This is a great opportunity for people to take a step away from concentrating on their personal happiness, and take a look at the happiness of the world. The campaign is flourishing on 24hoursofhappiness website where a new dancing video from a different country is released every hour, and I’m sure you can guess what they’re dancing to!
The campaign will help raise money for the United Nation’s Central Emergency Fund (CERF) to directly support critical aid operations to people affected by natural disasters and armed conflicts. This campaign shows that these people all over the world are happy, despite their hardship! So tomorrow, let’s have a #HappyDay no matter what, 24 hours of happiness!
