Hermes Birkin Sells For $185 Grand, World Explodes

A Hermes Birkin Bag sold for $185,000 at the Heritage Auction in Los Angeles this past Tuesday. No, you did not read that wrong, and yes, this actually happened. Sold to an anonymous bidder, the bag is comprised of Himalayan Nilo (a type of crocodile), 18-karat white gold, and (literally) hundreds of diamonds.

But believe it or not, this is only the second highest priced Birkin to make its way to the auction block. In 2011, another crocodile-skinned, diamond-decked Birkin sold for upwards of $200,000. We know Birkins are an accessory favorite among celebs (Samantha Jones almost forsook her career for one on Sex and the City, and Kim Kardashian was gifted a George Condo customized one by hubby Kanye last Christmas).

Is this too much for something that will only end up holding your raggedy tissues and Tic-Tacs? Or is there really no price put on style?
