Hugo Boss Launched Sneakers Made Out Of Pineapple Leaves

When you are looking to purchase a new pair of shoes, you often look at the size, comfort, and style of the shoe before purchasing. You may forget to ask yourself if the shoes you are looking at are vegan.

According to a 2018 PETA report, Hugo Boss is doing its part as the vegan movement picks up steam. BOSS Menswear now offers high-quality vegan shoes made of pineapple leather—yep, you read that right: pineapple leather. The material, known as Piñatex, is “an innovative leather-alternative created from pineapple leaf fibres.” Because the leaves are a byproduct of harvesting the fruit, no additional resources are needed to produce the material, which means that farmers receive an additional source of income. Plus, Piñatex is completely animal-free.

Hugo Boss has found a way to produce innovative and sustainable products at the incredible quality they have always provided.

According to a 2018 Footwear News report, the project is part of an ongoing commitment to innovation across the company’s offerings as well as a search for more sustainable ways to design, source, produce and finish its products. The textile is colored using natural plant-based dyes. In combination with a recycled TPU sole, the shoe is completely vegan.

The brand noted that the textile uppers require “no extra resources to grow and provide farming communities with an additional income.”

According to a 2018 High Snobiety report, the upper is colored with natural plant dyes and is matched with a TPU sole, making it 100 percent vegan. Additional things to note are the organic cotton laces up top and a fully recyclable/biodegradable shoe box to place them in.

The Italia-made shoes are available now in four colors including brown, black, blue, and yellow. They can be purchased for £269 at Hugo Boss online and in select Hugo Boss retail stores.
