Sunday night, stars gathered in Toronto, Ontario for iHeartRadio’s MuchMusic Video Awards. They served the crowd with an eclectic survey of style to boot. Admissions tickets, golf clubs and did we mention a six pack comprised the standout pieces of the night’s red carpet parade?
Cue the suspense. Build the intrigue. But we won’t be too cruel. We’ll satisfy that wandering browser with the introduction of Sunday night’s golf club gang. Josh Ramsey, Matt Webb, Mike Ayley and Ian Casselman of the Canadian rock band, Marianas Trench, donned style of true ‘Caddy Shack’ fashion. Perhaps in support of the U.S. Open’s final round the same day? Regardless, the musicians and presenters for the night dressed as a group of three, with caddy in tow.
Knee-high socks, argyle vests and a full Burberry-inspired ensemble drew our eyes as Marianas Trench called attention to an old-school era of golfer swag. A little less Tiger. A little more Bobby Jones. Lately, fashion digresses to trends of the past (i.e. boater hats and chokers), so we can only commend the boys and their efforts to represent an aged era and newfound spin on the athleisure phenomenon.
Internet personality and Vine star, Nash Grier, is up next on docket with his denim statement coat. Grier donned an environmentally-conscious piece, a deep wash jean jacket that had expletives stamped across the stitching. In an effort to stop the pollution of water, Grier’s jacket screamed ‘The F’ are you ‘Doing To My Oceans’.
Pairing the criticizing coat with a graphic tee, featuring a Native American chief, the look offered a shout for poetic justice as the threads literally and figuratively spoke for injustice. While the internet star has proven his virtual world skills top notch, the MMVA’s red carpet shows he can fuse his message to the threads of a well-worn jacket, all the same.
Also trading in her computer for the stage at this year’s MMVAs is YouTube sensation, Lilly ‘Superwoman’ Singh. Lilly appeared on the red carpet wearing a sequin shift dress. And the pattern? Alternating blue and red admissions tickets.
As director of her original documentary, ‘A Trip to Unicorn Island’, Singh is widely received by her 7 million subscribers as an uplifting and positive force in the virtual world. Her 60s-inspired mod dress reflects that same jovial spirit. The bright coral sneaks, a fishtail updo and a radiating smile complete the young and cheerful ensemble. A look perfectly suited for ‘Unicorn Land’.
Got a secret. Can you keep it? While Ashley Benson and Shay Mitchell stunned in a pair of high-slit gowns, Lucy Hale caught most of our attention on this year’s carpet. A short, simple and ever so chic mini really drew our eyes.
The dress features a geometric design in mirror-like pixels. A matching pair of silver pointed pumps and black lips really brought this look into the next millennium. A sleek middle part with dark nails and clutch have us giving this PLL-star five galactic stars.
We would be remiss to not mention the host of the evening. Ever-stunning and always-fashionable Gigi Hadid. The it-model set fire to the carpet in this red number. Flared trousers with knee-high slits set this pant suit apart from your typical business formal look. A deep-v blazer, crystal choker and matching red lip completed this host-worthy nighttime ensemble.
We promised you a six pack ensemble and here it is…
Trading in some Coors Light for a Shemar Moore flavor, the MMVA’s stage was privy to the sighting of the ‘Criminal Minds’-star toned tummy. After his initial entrance in a neutral-toned ensemble, Moor decided the scarf was making him a bit too hot.
Liz Trinnear. We feel you.
