The hashtag “#UndateableBecause” has been trending for a hours now on both Twitter and Facebook. It is followed by a sentence or two explaining why the person posting it is undateable.
The hashtag was inspired by the twitter account @Midnight which is for a game show that is on Comedy Central. The twitter account is notorious for their “#Hashtagwars”, and #UndateableBecause was another one of their creations. Last night the cast of NBC’s new show “Undateable” was on, and this hashtag was the intended to promote the new show which comes out May 29th at 9pm Est.
Twitter quickly picked this up as a trend, and even 16 hours later the trend is still going strong. Since the hashtag got attention, NBC has been tweeting out reasons why the characters in Undateable aren’t dateable, with a video attached that gives you a short intro into what each character is like. According to NBC, “’Undateable’ is a new comedy series about a group of friends who are close to finding a relationship – they just need a little help.”
Companies on Twitter that are known for their humorous tweets have participated in this new fad as well. Applebee’s tweeted “#UndateableBecause, you ate the last Boneless #Wing” and inserted a picture of a plate full of their boneless wings. While Panerabread said, “#UndateableBecause my heart already belongs to Broccoli Cheddar soup.” Some of the tweets are funny, and make references to loving food too much to be in a serious relationship. While other tweets make you question why some people are allowed on the internet.
In the end the hashtag is a light hearted way to for people who are single to joke about the fact that they aren’t in a relationship, and bond with others in the same situation as you. The tag is getting updates every minute, so log onto your account and tell the world why you’re undateable.
