When it starts to rain on your well thought out date night, your first instincts may be to cancel the plans. But you should do no such thing! Instead, invite your date over for an opportunity to have fun while being spontaneous with each other. Not only will you two salvage your potentially ruined night out, but you will actually get the chance to know each other a little better.
If you cancel on one date, you leave the door open to cancel more. Before you cancel, make sure that it is for a legitimate reason, like a family emergency. But unless you have a long distance relationship, or the state has declared a series of weather advisories, you should make the effort to modify your originally planned date to show your significant other how much you value your time together. A moderately rainy night is a perfect time to get to know each other—regardless of how long the two of you have been going out. Serious alone time can bring out traits that you never noticed your better half had.
You two should get comfortable with each other to engage in activities that you previously did not have the time to do before the stormy night. This can be something as simple as cooking meals that you both wanted to try, but the weather kept you from making reservations. If you do not have a blackout, google or search recipes on Pinterest that entices you both and get cooking!
If you happen to be in a state of emergency and cannot be together for the evening, your evening can be modified to a night of binge watching or catching up on shows you both enjoy. Netflix, Hulu, or any other network’s direct website will be your go to place to be in sync together when you two are not physically in the same place. Watching shows together and actually talking about them afterwards allows you two to connect on a mental level and remind each other of your similar tastes. You can also do a book club night as well—if books are your shared hobby.
Activities like these will give you two the ability connect mentally on your shared likes and dislikes, but you just might learn things about each other that you did not know before.
If you are lucky enough to get stormed in together, you can get up the courage to try new things in the bedroom. Getting sexually adventurous together with new positions, props, or longer foreplay will heighten intimacy. If you are stuck without electricity, you eliminate distractions that keep you from getting to know each other’s needs. Even if you do have power, still turn off the devices and let yourselves focus on each other.
Cancelling dates can slowly become a habit, which will not help your relationship grow. Look at the weather forecast the day of your schedule date, and make quick changes to your plans beforehand. You want to provide time to stop at the grocery store to make sure you have all the ingredients you need, research the web for sexy alternatives or find the best websites/books to cuddle up close and catch up on. As long as you modify your dates to accommodate the weather, it will show your partner that you care about your quality time together.
