Mortal Kombat is a popular video game by Midway Games that was developed in the year 1992. Back in the 90’s, when making video game films was extremely popular, the franchise got a film of the same name in 1995 and a sequel in 1997. However, like most of the attempts to turn a video game franchise into a film, the efforts did not bear much fruit. The films did not do so well amongst the audience who were mostly opinionated gamers.
As of now, James Wan, who directed Furious 7, wants to reboot the film franchise. Wan has been taken by New Line Cinema to produce the new Mortal Kombat film. Oren Uziel and Dave Callaham are set to write the script of the film and will hopefully do a good job this time.
The franchise that has its own television series and comics in the past has had unsuccessful films. The audience of a film franchise like this one is extremely scrupulous indeed. The people who are dedicated to the games don’t normally ignore faults that the film makers will make.
Hopefully, the film’s crew will keep that in mind when they are making the film this time and actually deliver a hit.
