This past Wednesday, June 11th, designer Jason Wu hosted the second annual Young Friends of ACRIA summer soiree. The event was held to support those living with HIV/AIDS and to raise money for AIDS research.
The event, held at the Highline Stages in Chelsea, New York, was hosted by the New York based designer, Jason Wu. The Taiwanese-Canadian designer is best known for clothing Michelle Obama at her husband’s Inaugurations. Attendees to the dinner included models Adriana Lima, Daria Strokous, Jacquelyn Jablonski, Karin Elson, Hilary Rhoda, Wu’s close friend Diane Kruger, and others.
Paddle8 held an auction of photos, including the photography of Steven Meisel, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Steven Kleim, and Juergen Teller. Additionally, to raise money, Wu, along with artist Nate Lowman, created a limited edition T-shirt and lent proceeds to the charity.
Wu commented on the event, telling Style that it has always been “the fun young peoples’ event,” but also, he says it is more than just a fun party. He tells the magazine: “You really stop to think: What does it mean to do something for somebody else? This is where the conversation starts.”
Despite the rainstorm, the event was a success. Guests enjoyed cocktails and dinner preparing by chef Michael White.
