The Death of Jeremy Meeks: Just a Hoax

Jeremy Meeks’s famous mug shot circled around the Internet once again, claiming that after being released from jail, he was immediately killed by his wife.

He first gained the Internet’s attention with a mug shot taken of him that people found attractive.

This information, or rather misinformation, was obtained through an article that was published to the satirical website called, “Huzlers.”

The article stated, “According to jail records, Jeremy Meek was released from jail just before midnight on Tuesday night. About an hour later, just before 1 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Stockton Police found him laying in the road in the area of Dayton and West in Central Stockton.” The article goes on to explain that he died shortly after.

All of this information, including the spelling of Meeks’s last name, was found to be false, but the headline and photo were screenshotted to be more easily passed around the Internet.

The headline spread rapidly, conveniently leaving out the actual source of the article.

Meeks is still in jail awaiting a trial after being arrested for gun possession.

Fans of the felon took to Twitter to mourn his loss, fully believing that the article was correct.

This event should really be an eye-opener for social media users to not believe the first thing they see on the Internet. They could at least do a little bit more research before re-posting about it online.
