Actress and entrepreneur Jessica Alba has signed a contract to be a part of Apple’s new reality TV series “Planet of the Apps”. Alba is set to act as a mentor for the up and coming developers who will be contestants for the show. She is just one of the many celebrities to be added to the show’s lineup, which included Gwyneth Paltrow, Gary Vaynerchuk, and Will.i.am.
Alba stated that when she started her renowned business The Honest Company, she saw an opportunity to market safe and effective health products (for babies and adults) that any customer would need. As a mentor for the new reality series, Alba continued to comment, she is looking forward to meeting and helping new entrepreneurs who want to create a new entertainment product for the technological world. Alba also claimed that she wants to help future entrepreneurs realize their dreams and get to know more about the process of developing apps in the tech world.
“Planets of the Apps” is an unscripted Apple reality series that is going to focus on the developmental App experience from the idea to product design and lastly the marketing of the new application. Apple launched an online open casting call for over 100 potential contestants for the show last Friday. The deadline to appear on the show and submit an app proposal for the competition is this coming September 21st.
The “Planets of the Apps” contestant winners are expected to earn equity to make their app dreams come true, which has been funded by Lightspeed Venture Partners who is known for investing in popular apps like Nest (acquired by Google), Playdom (bought by Disney), and lastly Snapchat. Jeremy Liew who is a partner within Lightspeed Venture commented that he looks forward to working with Apple and other visionaries who want to help discover the next generation of app developers who could revolutionize the entertainment industry.
“Planet of the Apps” is expected to film in Los Angeles during the last few months of 2016 to the beginning of 2017.
