Actor Jim Parsons, who is known for playing the quirky theoretical-physicist Sheldon Cooper on ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ is all set to take the stage for another role.
The 42 year-old American thespian from Texas is going to play god – quite literally. A new comedy play on Broadway, ‘An act of God,’ will have Parsons playing an important role. He has ditched his quirky Big Bang character for the witty role of God.
The play is based on the book, ‘The Last Testament: A Memoir by God,’ which was written by David Javerbaum. Javerbaum has won thirteen Emmy’s so far for his contribution to ‘The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.’ The writer also has other books like, ‘America (The Book): A Citizen’s Guide to Democracy Inaction’ and ‘Earth (The Book): A Visitor’s Guide to the Human Race.’
Parsons is doing a brilliant job emulating the role of a wise-crack with his witty comebacks to questions about his character of “God.”
About his performance, the New York Times commented that, “With his sly smile and sparkly eyes, he delivers the zingers with an easy grace, giving a nice silky consistency to shtick that, in more aggressive hands, might grow oppressive.”
Certainly, Parsons fits well in the shoes of God.
