Jinger Duggar has been seen in photographs on Instagram wearing shorts. That is right people. A Duggar has dared to dress for hot weather, and we love her for it! The pictures were taken while she and her husband Jeremy Vuolo were at San Antonio to visit where he used to play professional soccer. Fans are excited and hope that they will be able to see her wearing shorts in the show. As for her family, that would be unheard of.

The women in the Duggar clan are required to wear long skirts and dresses until they get married. Then their husbands decide what they wear. In regards to her own style, Jinger’s sister Joy-Anna stated, “I said before that I don’t like dresses, but Austin likes them on me. So, I’m branching out and I’m wearing some dresses now.” She continued, “I don’t really have fashion. I just kind of wear whatever Austin likes. Before, I just wore whatever was in the closet. I’m trying to improve that.”

In regards to what Jinger wears, her husband Jeremy said, , “It is your liberty as to whether you dress modestly with a modest pair of pants, or with a skirt, or with a T-shirt, or with a blouse.” He continued, “It is not your liberty, women, to wear sensual, seductive clothing that is designed to draw the attention of your brothers.” Was this a dig at the scandal surrounding Josh Duggar, who molested his sisters when they were younger?

In regards to the incident, the conservative parents said, “Back 12 years ago, our family went through one of the most difficult times of our lives.” They went on, “When Josh was a young teenager, he made some very bad mistakes, and we were shocked. We had tried to teach him right from wrong. That dark and difficult time caused us to seek God like never before.” They added, “Even though we would never choose to go through something so terrible, each one of our family members drew closer to God. We pray that as people watch our lives, they see that we are not a perfect family.”

Jinger Duggar has broken the mold of her hyper-conservative family’s dress code before when she decided to wear pants. She is married to Jeremy Vuolo, and the Duggar women are only allowed to wear what their husbands approve of after they leave the family home, giving them very little agency over their own bodies. Jinger has been seen wearing jeans, Jordans, and ironically, a sleeveless Nike top.

This is ironic because, in their book, the daughters mention that they use the word “nike” as a signal to the men in the family to avert their eyes. The book says, “That’s a signal to the boys, and even to Dad, that they should nonchalantly drop their eyes and look down at their shoes as we walk past her… It’s meant to help keep the guys’ eyes from seeing things they shouldn’t be seeing. By using the single-word signal, the warning can be given quietly and discreetly.” So if anyone ever runs into this family and they hear that word muttered, you may not be dressed to the Duggar’s standards.

In their book Growing Up Duggar, the eldest of the daughters also spoke about their choice of fashion saying, “We do not dress modestly because we are ashamed of the body God has given us; quite the contrary. We realize that our body is a special gift from God and that He intends for it to be shared only with our future husband.” They continue, “We avoid low-cut, cleavage-showing, gaping, or bare-shouldered tops; and when needed, we wear an undershirt. We try to make it a habit to always cover the top of our shirt with our hand when we bend over. We don’t want to play the peekaboo game with our neckline.”
