Joe Biden is set to guest star as himself in the new season of the longtime running NBC cop drama, Law and Order: SVU. For this years eighteenth season, Mariska Hargitay, who plays one of the best woman cop portrayals of the decade, plays Olivia Benson, who is trying to work with the Vice President to end the rape kit backlog all across the United States. The Vice President recent came onto the Law and Order set on July 29th to film his parts for the upcoming episode. He is also expected to interact with three other main casts mates of the show, Kelli Giddish, Ice-T, and Peter Scanavino.
His time with the SVU team is for an important cause, as domestic violence is something he fights against in real life. Reportedly, Biden and the longtime actress have partnered together in many projects, including PSA messages to advocate the No More Campaign that works on stop domestic violence and sexual assault across America. Hargitay also works with the Joyful Heart Foundation, which deals with helping survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse victims. This year, Hargitay presented the Vice President with the Finnegan award at her Joyful Heart Foundation gala.
Joe Biden is not new to making appearances on TV. He has previously guest starred on another NBC show Parks and Recreation to portray himself. At the Parks and Rec set, he met some of his biggest supporters and fans, Amy Polar and Adam Scott.
Mariska Hargitay commented that she was over the moon about Biden’s appearance and also how much SVU has changed her life in her last interview with the press. Hargitay believes the show has helped shape “rape culture” out of the dark ages of slut shaming and helped evolve the message to help victims of sexual assault and violence. Law and Order: SVU is set to premiere on September 21st on its usual NBC slot at 9pm.
