Actor and star of Showtime’s Penny Dreadful, Josh Hartnett, will be a father for the first time, as his girlfriend Tamsin Egerton is pregnant with what will also be her first child.
Hartnett’s representative revealed the exciting announcement to E! News on Friday.
The couple first met while filming their movie in 2010, The Lovers, which released in February, where they played love interests. Ironically, they became lovers in real life a year later, but for the most part, they have managed to keep their relationship low key.

Hartnett shared with USA Today in an interview back in May about how he enjoys the low profile they have been able to keep.
“I purposefully didn’t want people to know too much about my personal life because I think a lot of people give it away for free. I think if you spend too much time courting people’s attention into your personal life, you lose your ownership of it. That’s why I make sure my life is my own. I was not a dumb kid. I was a little bit wary of this business. I saw what it could do to people pretty quickly,” he shared.
At first Harnett was even against dating his co-stars and did not suggest it especially for “young actors.”
“I don’t recommend it to young actors,” he tells Elle magazine in a 2014 interview. “You can make a lot of enemies in the business that way. But when you work with somebody every day, it’s like trial dating. You develop a fantasy about them.”
But, quite recently he has swayed his opinion and shares with Playboy earlier this year how dating a co-star is understandable.
“Everybody makes mistakes dating people they work with. They’re whom I’m attracted to because I share experiences with them and understand a bit about what they are and what they do. If I were able to go back in time, I don’t know if I could have done anything any different,” he shared.
And there is no doubt that he will be a good father. He had already started planning ahead for a life with children while he shared his view on excessive wealth.
“If we could just help one another and express ourselves, we’d all be happy. But then I think, ‘Oh s–t, there are bills to be paid, and I’d have to get a car that’s safe for my kid.’ I don’t have a kid yet, but that’s the idea coming into my head these days,” he said.
