Kaia Gerber Gave Herself a Stick-and-Poke Tattoo While Self-Isolating

It’s no secret that Kaia Gerber is a big fan of tattoos. The supermodel has a growing collection of small, delicate pieces scattered across her body and, while she usually leaves her body art to the pros (as she should), it seems that she got the itch for new ink while social distancing and gave herself a stick-and-poke tat at home.

In a new interview, Gerber told Glamour that getting tatted is one of her “favorite pastimes,” and since tattoo parlors are currently (and understandably) closed due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, she took matters into her own hands for her latest addition. “I think I have a newfound appreciation for tattoo artists. It’s not easy,” she said of her stick-and-poke experience.

The 18-year-old might have been feeling the tattoo bug, but tattooing herself (which we do not recommend at all) proved to be a bigger feat than she originally anticipated. “I didn’t get too ambitious,” she revealed. “I gave myself a dot, just so I could be like, ‘All right, I got a tattoo this month, I’m cool.'”

Her new dot joins a handful of other tattoos, including a small Picasso sketch and the word “mom.” She also told Glamour that while she can’t pick a favorite, as each piece is important to her, that hasn’t always been the case. “I think I was so worried I was going to regret every tattoo I got,” the supermodel opened up. “[But] they all represent such an important time in my life, even if the tattoo itself doesn’t have much importance. It’s like they’re all memories, so I don’t feel like I could ever see myself regretting them,” she explained.

Aside from her Picasso rendition and the lil’ homage to her mom Cindy Crawford, she also sports a small spaceship on her leg and an angel on her ribcage. At her last parlor visit, Gerber got a small group of flowers and a female torso, while her brother Presley (he of the “MISUNDERSTOOD” face tattoo) got “HAHA” on his knuckles.

We’re going to go ahead and say don’t try giving yourself a tattoo at home, even if you’ve got the itch. Wait for the parlors to reopen so you can have a pro fulfill your ink dreams, and if you haven’t taken the plunge yet, we’ve got some great guidelines for getting your first tattoo so you, like Kaia, can decorate your body with pieces you truly love.
