Kendall Jenner: Marc Jacobs’ New ‘Goth Goddess’

Haven’t you seen Jenner’s new look? Check Marc Jacobs’ Instagram account.

The designer just posted Kendall as his latest gothic muse for his Fall 2016 campaign. You can stop scrolling. We know you might not have recognized her, but that’s our fresh-faced Kendall in a costume fit for Miss Bellatrix Lestrange.

Donning a voluminous tulle and satin gown and a crazed crimp do, Jenner sits hunched with a piercing stare in the pitch-black ensemble.

“KENDALL, Supermodel I will always remember the first time I met Kendall during castings for our Fall 2014 fashion show. Katie Grand invited her to come by the studio for a brief introduction before she was photographed for the model boards. At the time, I knew very little about Kendall… As history now has it, her very first fashion show was for Marc Jacobs Fall 2014. Kendall has since been a part of every show along with being featured in our Spring ’15 ad campaign (also shot by David Sims). It goes without saying that Kendall has gone on to establish an incredible career for herself and every bit of it is a testament to her hard work, passion and desire. During castings for Fall ’16, due to the enormous height of the boots we designed, we had to make certain that each girl was able to walk (and walk safely). Kendall slid those boots on and walked around the studio as if she was in a pair of running shoes: statuesque, confident and just as enthusiastic and excited to be doing the show as if it was her first one. For me, it is the ability of a model to effortlessly transform into a look and character that makes her so appealing and inspiring. Photographed by David Sims for our Fall ’16 ad as a Goth Goddess is the sweet, kind and ultimate professional, Kendall Jenner.” -@themarcjacobs • Photographed by David Sims Styled by @kegrand Casting by @bitton Hair by @guidopalau Makeup by @diane.kendal Nails by @jinsoonchoi Set design by @stefanbeckman #MJFW16

Jacobs’ revels in what he feels is a “statuesque” Jenner, as she sits regally (and sombrely) poised. In those sky-high leather platforms, we’d be surprised if the model was posing in anything but a sitting position. The enormous height of Jacobs’ new design would require nothing short of a stilt-walking professional.

In Jenner’s second snapshot, we see the it-model has strayed a great distance from her Calvin Klein-musing days. Jenner appears sullen, dark, as she continues to shine through the eerie glow with her vivid and heartfelt expressions. In this headshot, Jacobs’ deems Jenner his ‘Goth Goddess’.

While it’s shocking to see the styles and aesthetics of designers changing so dramatically in the fast-paced world of fashion, it comes at a greater surprise when the model is constantly subjected to the media’s spotlight.

Fittingly, Kendall’s first fashion show was on Marc Jacobs’ runway in 2014.

The designer says Jenner has been a part of every show since. Now, we see the relationship between Kendall and Jacobs’ grow, prosper and take on shocking new forms. I.e. Jenner’s new gothic garb.

Jacobs writes, “For me, it is the ability of a model to effortlessly transform into a look and character that makes her so appealing and inspiring.”

While we’re still adjusting to Jenner’s bewitching transformation, we fondly reminisce of a young metal-mouthed Kendall…
