In an attempt to challenge gender norms by donning tracksuits and fake mustaches, stars Kristen Stewart, Anne Hathaway and Brie Larson star alongside Jenny Lewis in her new music video for “Just One of the Guys.” The song, a part of her new album, The Voyager, along with its video, was written and directed by Lewis herself.
The video begins with the four women in a mock band, wearing sleek white suits and strumming on instruments. Yet, as the video progresses, the women sport colorful Adidas tracksuits, false mustaches and goatees. Hathaway even dons an oh-so-stylish rattail and break-dances. Lewis dons her classic airbrushed unicorn suit and rainbow guitar, making the video one unique sight to see.
In an interview with GQ, Lewis asserted that the video was just as much fun to shoot as it was to watch. She said, “We screamed with laughter all day, huddled behind the monitors. I haven’t laughed that hard since What About Bob? Came out on laser disk.”
The singer-songwriter, who hasn’t released a solo album in six years, and has since split with Rilo Kiley, struggled through the death of her estranged father, as well as suffered periods of chronic insomnia, has plans to release the cathartic album, The Voyager on July 29 with a tour planned for August.
