Let Your Natural Texture Shine With Miss Jessie’s Quick Curls

My hair has always given me trouble. From the times that I would cry because I didn’t like the way my grandma combed my too-thick and poufy hair (sorry Gram!), to the halo of frizz and baby hairs that would always steal the spotlight from my go-to bun (even a headband couldn’t control those suckers). My wavy/curly mane was something my mom never quite knew how to handle. And because none of my friends dealt with such hair hassle, I always struggled with what to do with my unruly head of curls (one time I even got a brush stuck in my hair just like in The Princess Diaries…that was fun).

After years of chemical straightening “treatments” and seemingly permanent dents in my hair from too-many scrunchies, I finally decided to take control of my natural texture, frizz, waves, and all. But first, I needed the best (or close to it) product out there. Something that allowed me to wet my hair, scrunch it, and run out the door (I have a bad habit of sleeping in trumping my looking “good,” hence the years of topknots), without looking like a poodle, wet poodle, or poodle that ran through those vacuum dryers at the car wash.

Finally I stumbled upon a haircare line called Miss Jessie’s who, on their website, claimed to be “Hands down, the proven experts in curls. Period!” I liked those odds, but was still weary—so many self-profressed “miracle products” had let me down in the past—making my waves crunchy, flat and anything but enviable. But, feeling helpless and in need of some hair TLC, I took the plunge and bought Miss Jessie’s Quick Curls hair crème, after finally tracking down to a drugstore/wig shop in downtown Manhattan.

I am so glad I did.

After I washed my hair and gently squeezed out the excess water with an old t-shirt (the friction from regular bath towels only encourages frizz), I raked Quick Curls through my hair in sections—flipping my hair to get every last piece. The bright, gingery scent was not perfume-y or too heavy, and all of my friends loved it. About fifteen minutes later (my hair dries fast), my hair was bouncy, curly, and free of my archenemy—frizz.

If you battle it out with your hair more than your frenemies, I urge you to check out Miss Jessie’s hair products. There are different versions for different textures, and have cute names (a girly reason, yes, but important nevertheless).

Isn’t it time that you embrace (rather than hide) your hair’s amazing potential? Put down the ponytail and get to scrunching, your hair will thank you.
