We’re all down for down (sorry). It’s in our comforters, our pillows, and now, thanks to Japanese retail juggernaut Uniqlo’s unique (how fitting) formula, our wardrobe too. But down coats and jackets were always around (how could you forget an item of clothing so bulky, boxy, and unabashedly unattractive), so what makes Uniqlo’s different? Well, the answer is (unsurprisingly) in the down.

On Uniqlo’s website, the retailer claims that “by eliminating down packs and stuffing the feathers directly into one highly dense piece of fabric, [the garment is thus] dramatically lightened.” Uniqlo’s ultra light down is also waterproof, and comes with a small pouch designed for taking your ultra light Uniqlo down on your many cold-weather travels. Any down coat that can fit into a drawstring pouch has to at least be worth a shot, right? Especially when fashionable jackets and coats still somehow do not cut it in the below zero temperatures, Uniqlo’s ultra light down is a non-hideous approach to any anti-down fashionista (we’re all notoriously vain, it’s okay).

Try out Uniqlo’s Ultra Light Down Compact Jacket for a shockingly streamlined, collarless version on the classic down coat. It comes in multiple, rich colors (like navy and dark green), and is condensed enough to seamlessly fit underneath a peacoat or hoodie for those bone-chilling days.

The same goes for the Compact Vest, which is slim enough to layer over sweaters without looking like a swollen Joey when he wore all of Chandler’s clothes on Friends (though, that is what you get for stealing his underwear, Chandler).

Has Uniqlo’s Ultra Light Down convinced you to give down outerwear another shot? Or would you rather suffer through the mercilessly cold winter of Arendelle (the country in Disney’s Frozen for all of you anti-Elsa’s) then ever be caught dead in a down creation?
