The 17-year-old Belgian soccer fan Axelle Despiegelaere, who got a L’Oreal modeling contract after cheering in the World Cup, was turned down by the company after a hunting picture.

The world fell in love with Despiegelaere’s smile when she was photographed cheering for her country in a World Cup game. The teenager became famous on the internet quickly and got herself a contract with the French beauty company L’Oreal.

When Despiegelaere was enjoying the world’s applause, a Facebook picture of her holding a gun in hand and kneeling next to a dead animal ended her adventure.

The Independent interviewed L’Oreal about the matter. The company’s spokesperson insisted that Despiegelaere was not a spokesperson for the company, but refused to comment on the picture.

“L’Oréal Professionnel Belgium collaborated with her on an ad hoc basis to produce a video for social media use in Belgium,” the spokesperson said. “The contract has now been completed.”

The representative added later that L’Oreal “no longer tests on animals, anywhere in the world, and does not delegate this task to others.”

Despiegelaere deleted her Facebook page after bitter fans’ comments.
