The 2017 Louis Vuitton Cruise collection fittingly made its debut in the very city which inspired the collection: Rio de Janeiro! Set at the Niterói Contemporary Art Museum, the models cruised their way down a meandering runway edged with boxed crates for its star-studded audience. The raceway-themed runway show revealed checkered and vividly colored fabrics that furthered electrified the futuristic silhouettes.

This first look inspires a whole different meaning to the term: shirt dress. The asymmetrical, button-lined hemline leading up to the all-but-one unbuttoned collar is a silhouette way ahead of its time. Perhaps, light years. Its the flat, gladiator-styled flip-flops that bring this look back down to earth. The casual footwear and vibrant racing flag colors makes this ensemble perfect for the future of sporty speedway fashion.

This sweater’s fabric and fit resemble the raceway’s finishing checkered flag quite literally. The boxy structure of the thick sweater offsets the flow of the colorfully sequined striped skirt. This combination only further juxtaposes the razor-sharp, pointed-toe flats that seem to round out this ensembles mixed media look.

In this last look, we see the marriage of the asymmetrical shirt dress and the checkered sweater, which is featured in both the neckline and fabric design of this ensemble. The white-strapped flip-flops and zippered dress closure make this a sporty piece, suited for any fast-paced raceway fan.
The UFO-styled backdrop proved a perfect setting for this next-level collection that seems to defy time, space and silhouette.
