Every dog deserves a treat. But why spend money on dog treats when you can make them at home yourself? Here’s a quick and easy recipe for making dog treats, with items that you probably have sitting in your cupboard.

You will need:
2 1/2 cups of whole wheat four
1 tablespoon of baking powder
1 cup of low sodium Chicken or Beef Broth
1/2 cup of old fashioned oats
1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Vegetable oil or cooking Spray
Bone (or any preferred shape) cookie cutter

Preheat oven to 375ºF, and spray a cookie sheet with the cooking spray, or line your pan with aluminum foil or wax paper. In a bowl, mix the flour, oats and baking powder. Stir in your chosen broth until the mixture is crumbly.
Knead dough until smooth, and then roll it out until it is about 1/2 inch in thickness. Using your cookie cutter, cut out shapes and place each one neatly on the cookie sheet. Be sure to reuse any scraps that can be re-rolled and cut. Sprinkle the Parmesan cheese on the cut outs before placing the pan in the oven. Bake from 20-23 minutes or until golden.
Finally, let your dog roll over, and enjoy some delicious treats! The cookies may be kept for as long as 1 week if held in an airtight container.
