Cindy Chen, a Malaysian entertainer and former first runner-up for the Miss World Malaysia contest, is launching her own fashion line focused on concepts of individuality, according to Star2.
The line will have some untraditional elements. Chen emphasized the importance of individual style and not following trends instead of personal preferences.
Creating the line, she said, was an extension of those ideas; making fashion that fits her likings and enjoying herself. She does not plan to brand the line with a particular look, preferring to let it constantly evolve along with her tastes. Also, Chen said that the brand will follow a storyline instead of seasons. She wants to create designs based on concepts. Chen also said that she intends to pursue collaborative work, bringing additional artists and designers in.
The first item Chen will release is a T-shirt with her brand logo, gold on a black background. The collection is unisex, and will have tops and accessories. The brand will market with the slogan “Wear Your Style.”
Chen told Star2 that she has loved fashion since her childhood, and designing was a longtime interest of hers. Chen has also hosted a fashion program for two years. This helped inspire her to look further into the world of design.
Chen took runner-up in the Miss World Malaysia beauty pageant for the 2008-2009 season. In recent years Chen has worked as a VJ for a radio-visual station that airs online, ONFM. She’s also worked in many facets of the entertainment industry for eight years, including modeling; acting in commercials, music videos or movies; singing; and appearing in or hosting different TV shows.
Chen said she enjoys all of her work and loves to be in the spotlight. Being a VJ is what she finds the most rewarding so far, even though it requires a lot of work and preparation on her part, and was a big challenge at first. Hosting shows as a VJ has brought Chen into contact with a lot of people asking for fashion and beauty advice. Creating her own brand was an opportunity to try something new, something she enjoys doing.
