A simple “Who’s there?” may be a better option than looking through the peephole next time you hear a knock at your door.
Philadelphia man was shot and killed Sunday night, after checking through the peephole to see who was knocking on his door. The shooting occurred after midnight. Philadelphia police have said, while the man was looking out, two shots were fired through the peephole. The bullets struck the man in the face and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s name has not been released by police. Philadelphia police believe that the shooter fled by foot and he may have had an accomplice. No motive is known at this time and no arrests have been made.

As news broke about this unusual crime, Philadelphia residents became apprehensive about looking through their peepholes. As speculated by webpronews.com, since there is no motive known at this time, many people believe that this is one of those “fad” crimes. Much like the “knockout assaults,” where people would knockout a stranger. We can only hope that “fad” crimes see a decline. But, for now the best bet is just to be as careful as possible in all situations. When someone knocks on your door and you aren’t expecting a visitor, simply ask, “who’s there?” and wait until you hear a response. Unfortunately, this country has seen a staggering rise in crime in recent years, and you can never be too careful, even in your own home.
