Melissa McCarthy is expected to start working on a new Fox series, not as an actress, but as a TV producer. The popular actress is developing a new family comedy series with Fox and is attached to the new project as an executive producer.
Ben Falcone, McCarthy’s husband, is also set to be a producing partner in the developing series. Along with McCarthy and Falcone, Jim Cashman and Mitch Silpa are also expected to join the project as co-executive producers.
The new untitled project is expected to be a half hour single camera show that follows an unconventional family that lives together under one roof. The family consists of a successful type A male who is housing not only his estranged sister, but her two children. Warner Brother’s studio is also expected to help develop the series, since the new project has landed a script deal with Fox.
The new project will also be the first series to ever be created by Jim Cashman and Mitch Silpa. Cashman and Silpa are both actors and writers who have previously worked with McCarthy. Cashman and Silpa have acted in small roles with McCarthy in some of her most popular films like The Boss, Spy, The Heat, and Bridesmaids. Cashman is also a Saturday Night Live alum and Silpa is known for his work in comedy shorts.
The new series is the second TV project that McCarthy and Falcone have produced together. Their first project Nobodies has recently been greenlit to air on TV Land next year.
McCarthy is expected to be seen on Netflix’s Gilmore Girls revival series, which is also her most recent small screen appearance since the CBS comedy Mike & Molly was cancelled after six seasons. Recently she starred in the reboot Ghostbusters film that flopped at the box office and is also working on another upcoming comedy film Life of the Party.
