Melissa McCarthy has decided to start her own plus-size clothing line, and she’s not pleased with the reasoning behind it, either. The 43-year-old actress has had enough with the fashion industry’s nonsense regarding a lack of weight acceptance. “When I go shopping, most of the time I’m disappointed. Two Oscars ago, I couldn’t find anybody to do a dress for me. I asked five or six designers—very high-level ones who make lots of dresses for people—and they all said no,” McCarthy said. McCarthy has decided to take matters into her own hands and show those snooty fashion designers a different side of beauty. She wants to be the voice for curvy women and do away with the disgrace associated with plus-size clothing. “Trying to find stuff that’s still fashion forward in my size is damn near impossible. It’s either for like a 98-year-old woman or a 14-year-old hooker, and there is nothing in the middle,” McCarthy said. She might be an Emmy award winner for her notable acting, but she knows a thing or two about fashion, as well. Having studied fashion design in college, her knowledge of style is sure to find her that long-awaited middle ground. As film critics continue to bash her appearance, calling her “tractor-sized,” McCarthy’s determination and passion bring hope to the industry – hope that some feel is the beginning of a revolution in fashion. Enough is enough. McCarthy will appear on the cover of the July issue of Redbook, which goes on sale in just a few days. The fashion industry better be ready to flip a new page in the book of high-fashion clothing and sizes.
