Since Oprah left daytime television the 4pm spot has been open for someone else to monopolize. 11 seasons later Ellen Degeneres has proved that she has the lasting power necessary for people to watch every day. The day after hosting the Oscar’s Ellen decided to air her talk show live. What makes Ellen’s show stand out the most is her “I am everyone’s friend, Come dance with me” persona. Every episode of Ellen is funny and worth watching, but this episode in particular, aired right after she hosted the Oscars, was a great recap, especially if you enjoyed her performance at the Oscars.
She recapped her history making selfie that included Oscar winners and some of the greatest actors and actresses of all time, and Lupita Nyong’o’s brother of course. Ellen’s Oscar selfie made history as the most retweeted photo with 2.8 million retweets, and it also broke Twitter. Samsung agreed to donate $1 per retweet and Ellen stated she would be donating the money to charity, and in true Ellen fashion she gave away Samsung Galaxy Note 2’s to everyone in the audience.
The funniest part of this episode of Ellen has to be the fact that it is a live show held the morning after the Oscars. Ellen along with the Oscar winners that she invited to the show that day are tired from partying all night. That was definitely the running theme of the show, sleeplessness. Cate Blanchett, Jared Leto, and Lupita Nyong’o arrived to Ellen’s stage with Oscar in tow. They discussed the highlights of the show, including the infamous selfie, the pizza, the parties that they attended after the show, and how they haven’t yet slept. But the best and most unexpected guest that Ellen had on her show today was the Pizza Guy she hired to hand out pizza at the Oscars last night. He had no idea who he would be serving pizza to, but Ellen gave him his 15 minutes of fame, and a $1000 tip! And of course Ellen couldn’t end the show without serving the audience pizza.
If you’ve never seen an episode of Ellen, it’s definitely worth watching. She is hilarious and keeps you laughing the entire way, you don’t even expect it. Leaving you wishing you were in the audience instead of sitting in front of your TV!
