Rami Malek has won his first Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama series for his performance in Mr. Robot.
The category was full of talented actors like Matthew Ryhys from The Americans, Ray Donovan’s Liev Schreiber, Bob Odenkirk from Better Call Saul, Bloodline’s Kyle Chandler, and Kevin Spacey from House of Cards. Although Malek took the win, for his portrayal of Elliot Alderson in Mr. Robot, and looked incredible surprised when he was called up to receive his award.
Malek jokingly stated the familiar line from Mr. Robot, please tell me your seeing this too, as he accepted the award. The actor continued to comment that he was honored to be recognized for his acting with such a distinguished and accomplished group of actors. Malek also thanked his family and all the individuals who helped him advance his career.
The actor also thanked Sam Esmail, the executive producer and writer for Mr. Robot, for the opportunity to work with a great cast and production team. Malek stated that without Esmail, he wouldn’t be accepting this award and thanked him again for including him in his show.
Malek’s last statements were about his shy character, Elliot, who he commented is a young man that is sadly very alienated. The actor stated that the unfortunate truth about the character he plays is that many people wouldn’t hang out with a quit guy like Elliot. So Rami Malek dedicated his speech to honor all the shy and introverted Elliot’s out there in the world.
Previously, Rami Malek was known for his small role in the Night at the Museum film trilogy and his role on the HBO miniseries The Pacific. Malek has recently acted in 2014’s Need for Speed film, which is based on a popular video game. Malek has also won a Critic Choice Television award for 2016’s best actor in a drama series with his role on Mr. Robot.
