This British label exudes simplicity and feminine wearability, and the 2015 Resort lineup carries out that legacy. The brand has not had a creative director since 2013. Yet Frances Stringer, head of designs, along with the rest of the design team pulled through with a simple, feminine lineup. The team drew inspiration from London’s Kew Gardens, with its lavish Victorian glass houses and lush scenery, to create a collection with a wistful, flirty, vintage feel.
The muted patterns were loosely inspired by the garden’s leaves, old ironwork, and greenhouse furniture, and translated onto the pieces in subtle ways. A patterned green peplum top and matching trousers mirrored the wicker designs of garden furniture. A silk drop-waist ivy green dress was done in a lattice pattern, similar to patterns of garden ironwork.
Notable looks included the monochromatic pale yellow ensembles that were structured yet soft and wearable. In true Mulberry fashion, the bags were a high point to the collection. There were endless classic, sturdy options in mostly earthy tones and simple, traditional shapes. A small, poppy colored cross-body clutch truly stood out, as well as a large black leather textured tote and a simple white handbag.
The collection embodied a quintessential British feel with its simple structured pieces. The label, after suffering a bit of a dip in business recently seems to be picking right back up again.
