British startup company, Edited, has recently analyzed a select group of retail store inventories to find the top ten biggest fashion trends in North America today.
- Men’s leather backpacks
Not only are they in demand, but leather backpacks are reportedly selling out at full prices because of their high demand. Edited has recently found that leather backpacks have more full price sellouts in most US luxury markets in the last fourteen days. This spring has seen 6% more sellouts of these leather goods compared to 2015. Leather backpacks, whether if they are simple or boldly embellished bags from Dolce & Gabbana or Fendi, are all equally selling fast.
- Men’s Skinny Joggers
Men are buying these comfortable skinny joggers like hot cakes, since joggers have risen in popularity this Spring. Due to the limited arrivals of joggers in the Spring season, Fashion retailers have seen a huge sales jump and made these comfortable sweats a fashion success this year.
- Men’s Bomber Jackets
Fashion retailers in both the US and UK regions have seen a 9% replenishment rate in men’s bomber jackets, which has indicated that these jackets are staying steady in the market. Although they have had their high and low seasonal sales this year, retailers expect the bomber to gain another successful winter season and possibly gain the bomber permanent staying power.
- Women’s Leggings
Edited has noted that the biggest health and fitness lifestyle movement in recent years has made woman’s leggings a must in their wardrobe. The company concluded that in their study of retail stores inventories across the nation that 49% of bottoms consist mainly of leggings.
- Women’s Flare-Cropped Jeans
Although Skinny jeans are still reigning the most power in the jean department, cropped flare jeans have made an impression on fashionistas everywhere since the US and UK hold five time more cropped flare jean options than any other country in the world. This year Edited has seen cropped flare jeans assortments in 41% of luxury retailers and 42% are being sold at a high end price point.
- Women’s Embroidered Denim
Denim with embellishments and embroidery are the rising star of fashion this season. Brands like Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs, House of Holland, and other luxury retailers have succeeded in providing a variety of embroidered denim pieces to fashionistas in the US. Reportedly the demand for embroidered denim items in the US has risen up to 88%.
- Women’s Slip Dresses
Slip dresses are becoming a key item for woman’s nightwear and daywear attire. This spring the slip has dominated 42% of retail store assortments. Although Edited has noticed that the slip dresses demand has lessened since retailers are shifting their interests toward their fall items, they expect for the slip to be back in style during the warmer seasons.

Many popular department store brands have evolved the exposed shoulder design on many decorative tops and dresses. But the most popular item in the exposed shoulder category is the lightweight chiffon like cami top.
- Women’s Wrap-Around Skirts
Reportedly the wrap-around skirt has been trending for years in the US market and in recent runway shows. Year after year, US retailers have reportedly increased 20% of their investments toward their wrap-around skirt products.
- Women’s Bomber Jacket
Last but not least, the bomber jacket has become an essential outerwear item for woman and men alike this year. The US and UK have seen a 209% and 134% growth in demand for woman’s bomber jackets this year.
