This week, Nickelodeon announced the hit show ‘Sam & Cat,’ starring Ariana Grande and Jennette McCurdy, will be canceled after only one season on air. Was this a result of McCurdy’s lingerie photos that were leaked earlier this year, Ariana’s music career taking off or simply lack of viewer interest?
It certainly was not a result of lack of interest. The show’s ratings were through the roof. It is believed to be a result of tensions on set and between cast members.
This April, rumors spread about Ariana and Jennette having drama on set. One was believed to have been receiving higher pay than the other, this did not sit well with the co-star. However, Ariana took to her Twitter page to clear the air, stating, “The rumors circulating about about our contracts not being equal are absolutely ridiculous and false.”
The singer also ensured that her and her co-star, McCurdy, would be treated equally “in all regards.”
Many stars who have grown up on Disney Channel and Nickelodeon begin to search for more serious career paths after a few years of exposure. Ariana has gained a big music following this year with the release of her hit single ‘Problem’ featuring rapper Iggy Azalea.
In a heartfelt note written on the stars Facebook page, she said goodbye to her character, and thanked the shows creator and staff. The only one omitted from the singer’s thanks was her co-star McCurdy.
Ariana confessed that she admires her character for her sense of wonder. Although her character was often mocked, she never lost her fascination and child-like wonder of the world. She said, “As we grow up, we become more and more jaded and fearful of how we come across.”
The star admits to having hid behind her characters braveness for so long. She tried to be more like her, because she assumed that’s how everyone imagined her to be. “It took me a long time to be brave enough to separate myself and show people how different we are… I think that’s honestly because I admire her so much.”
Although many are sad about the show coming to an end, fans know it will not be the last they see of sweet-natured Ariana Grande. With her second single ‘Break Free’ being such a huge success, many can surely expect more dance tunes in the near future. Grande’s third album, My Everything, is set to be released August 25th and is available on iTunes for pre-order now.
