Peter Copping, the Creative Director for Nina Ricci, designed for this season’s resort collection a series of diverse looks with diverse palettes, yet did not stray from the brand’s classic feminine, modern feel.

Copping told Women’s Wear Daily that he found inspiration for the line from browsing through years of National Geographic books and channeling the looks of a variety of women from many different cultures. He quotes in WWD: “I cherry picked from different cultures and applied them to what we do.”

The collection, containing 27 looks, seems to appropriate elements from many different global cultures with its wide array of colors, patterns, and its diverse range of cuts, all while keeping the elegant Nina Ricci feel.

Touches of American sportswear are seen in the tweed and leather biker jacket and tweed skirt, while black and white lace pieces – most notably the elegantly crafted white lace overalls – are reminiscent of Mexican festival looks. Faded floral pieces such as a boxy jacket and pencil skirt, as well as the ruffled cap-sleeve evening gown channel 1950s Caribbean women. The sleek white and black fleck print blazer and skirt combo and dress were inspired by the white dot makeup of the Makonde tribespeople in Mozambique and Tanzania. The feminine black evening gowns are purebred Parisian-inspired Ricci, with their sophisticated, elegant cuts.

Copping’s designs, while fresh and diverse did not compromise the flirty yet sophisticated trademark feel we have come to expect from the brand.
