Oscar de la Renta Dies at 82

Legendary fashion designer Oscar de la Renta has died at 82, ABC News reported. De la Renta was diagnosed with Cancer back in 2006.

De La Renta was born in the Dominican Republic, made his name during the 60’s when first lady Jacqueline Kennedy frequently wore his designs. Before launching his label in 1965 in New York, De la Renta interned with Cristobal Balenciaga before moving to Paris to work at Lanvin and Balmain. 

De La Renta, known for his high fashionable  draping gowns, dressed many celebrities for many years including Nicole Kidman, Cameron Diaz, Kristen Stewart, Penelope Cruz, Oprah Winfrey and Jessica Chastain. He recently designed Amal Clooney’s wedding dress.

His work was loved by first lady Michelle Obama. His dresses adorned by Nancy Reagan, Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush.  In a recent event, Hillary Clinton introduced a recent retrospective of his designs, saying,

“His name alone evokes elegance and timeless beauty. And his designs give each of us a chance to feel like we’re special, too.”

De la Renta  married Francois Langlade, French Vogue Editor, who later died in 1983. He was survived by his current wife, philanthropist Annette Reed and his son Moises de la Renta.
