At Oscar de la Renta’s last fashion show, he gave a secret sneak peak of his last fragrance collection Extraordinary which was released this month.
The entryway to Oscar de la Renta’s Spring 2015 fashion show was a wall of pink carnations and hydrangeas which exemplifies the fragrances feminine scent and packaging. One of the last moments of Oscar on the runway was him walking with his model Karlie Kloss out of this floral doorway.
Oscar passed at the age of 82 in October 2014 due to lengthy complications with cancer. But he was not ready to fully let go and made sure his name lived on with his developments for this fragrance. The perfume is a metaphor to Oscar’s knowing love and passion for women. Oscar himself made sure the fragrance would identify with woman. “When she puts it on, it is no longer mine; it smells like her,” he said about his past visions for his fragrances.
The name speaks for itself and Oscar hoped his fragrance could empower all women and make them feel extraordinary within themselves.

Extraordinary’s formula is made up of several florals such as neroli coming from a bitter orange tree but exuding a sweet and spicy scent and cherry blossom with a small touch of peony and rose ending with a blond wood, vanilla orchid, and amber resin combination scent. The fragrance is protected by a glass celestial -shaped bottle with a pink cap matching that of the formula.
The design and ingredients within the perfume appeals to a younger audience then Oscar’s fragrance lines usually target.
“What makes a perfume successful is not when a woman buys it the first time, but the third and fourth. Because, by then, she is not buying it because she likes the bottle or thinks the packaging is pretty, she’s buying it because she identifies with it. it is hers.” – Oscar de la Renta
Oscar’s fragrance Extraordinary also available in a lip balm can be found at various retailers such as the Oscar de la Renta boutiques, Macy’s, Lord & Taylor, Dillards and Belk.
