Oscar night, one of the most elegant and glamorous nights in Hollywood. Every year stars come out in their most extravagant gowns and try to wow all the photographers and fashion critics with show stopping pieces. The red carpet of the Oscars is seen as the Super Bowl of Fashion because it is when all the big and amazing dresses come out to play.
Every designer wants to have their dresses be walked down the carpet on the bodies of the biggest stars in Hollywood. For new designers, if you have a gown walking down this carpet it could be your ticket to stardom in the fashion world. Designers are always big at work before this award show, making custom designs for these celebrities and making sure that their pieces are not placed on the worst dressed list the next day. This can mean a very stressful time for both designers and stars leading up to the red carpet. Designers want to make sure that they are being represented by the biggest stars and seek out who they want to wear their garments. And for stars, they want to make sure they are at the top of their game so they try to find the best designer who will make something extra special for them.
Both the designers and stars want to end up on top of the fashion poll by the end of the night. Because of the stress that goes along with finding or making the perfect gown for this spectacular night, there can be many overwhelming disputes that happen before hand. This year proved to be no exception. Rumors swirled before the night even began about there being arguments between stars and designers, but nerveless the carpet went on.
A big statement color that appeared on many celebrities walking down the carpet was red. Many nominated actresses sported this bright color that matched the carpet as they elegantly grazed down it. And for those who were not into being so bold, nude was a reoccurring trend of the night. One person seen wearing this style was best actress winner Emma Stone who wear a nude Givenchy gown.
With all the talk about the women of the night, let’s not forget about all the men who put on their best tuxedos for the elegant affair. Many stuck to a more classic tux attire, but there were also some men who tried to prove that they could have just as much fun wearing interesting outfits like the women. Pharrell was one who proved you can never go wrong with adding some extra detail, sporting a peacock inspired ensemble.
After the night was all said and done and all the craziness was over, the publics opinions on the outfits seen on the carpet went wild. Every person in fashion has different opinions on what looks best and everyone has their own style, but still the best and the worst outfits of the night were thrown around Hollywood and revealed soon after.
Some of the best voted women for the night included Ruth Negga, a best actress nominee who sported a long-sleeve gold gown that made her look like royalty walking down the carpet. Another big standout was Namie Harris sporting Calvin Klein. There was a lot of talk surrounding who would wear this designer and the end result did not disappoint.
Of course, there can not be a best-dressed list without a worst. Many big name stars struck out during this night including Jessica Biel, Halle Berry, and Janelle Monae. These stars might have royally messed up with their outfit choices this year but that means next time they step out on this night, they know they better bring it.
