Owlcrate Bringing Literature to Your Door

Have you ever had trouble choosing a book when you go to the bookstore? The Owlcrate service will eliminate that decision making for you. Owlcrate is a lot like Lootcrate where subscribers receive fun and cute nerdy collectibles in a box every month. Owlcrate subscribers receive a new young adult (YA) novel along with bookmarks and other little literary knick knacks. Every once in a while subscribers will receive an adult novel if it is in embraced by the YA community.

Owlcrate was founded in November of 2014, so it is a relatively new service. According to Hellogiggles the name Owlcrate comes from the mail delivered by owls from the “Harry Potter” series. That is a good indicator that the people behind Owlcrate, Korrina and Robert, are the right kind of people to start this service. Their mission statement from the website is that no one is too old for YA novels. They may be directed towards teenagers, but YA novels have themes of self identification and trying to figure out the ways of the world. Even adults don’t have everything figured out.

This is a great service where literature will be delivered right to your house. For the bookworms this can be the greatest service ever created. What die hard bookworm wouldn’t want new books delivered to them every month? Diving into brand new plot lines and falling in love with new characters is what makes reading magical. This service could make people want to get back into reading regularly, or at least make it a little more mainstream. Owlcrate does encourage their subscribers to share their box through social media. Posting on Instagram or Twitter the cool things you got out of your box can make all your friends jealous.

Owlcrate costs about $29.99 with an additional cost for shipping. Since the service is still less than a year old they probably can’t afford to ship for free. The price may not be that ideal, but it is worth it. A new book and extra goodies for about $37 is pretty much amazing. Now if only they could figure out how to get actual owls to deliver the packages. The post office will have to do now until that can be figured out.
