Based on recent confirmations of a follow-up plan, Pink Floyd will be releasing a new album this Fall. This is their first album since 1994, 20 years ago. The album is entitled “The Endless River” and is set for release in Oct. 2014.
The news first came on Jul.5. as David Gilmour’s wife, Polly Samson, wrote on her Twitter, “Btw Pink Floyd album out in October is called ‘The Endless River’. Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright’s swansong and very beautiful.”
Founding member Rick Wright died of cancer in 2008 at the age of 65. Currently, Roger Waters has not confirmed his involvement in the project as he is reportedly working on a solo album at this time.
Vocalist Durga McBroom-Hudson, however, confirmed the bands plans and revealed several details about the production. She posted a picture of their sessions onto Facebook. Additionally, she wrote, “It was originally to be a completely instrumental recording, but I came in last December and sang on a few tracks. David then expanded on my backing vocals and has done a lead on at least one of them.”
Pink Floyd’s last album, “The Division Bell” reached No.1 on the Billboard 200 following its release. The 1994 album also produced two singles.
On the Facebook page, McBroom-Hudson has been attempting to keep as quiet as possible, despite that fans are bombarding her with questions and requests. She wrote on Sun., Jul. 6, “Hey folks – Please stop asking me to tell David to tour here or there, or to reconcile with Roger. I do not tell David what to do, or make suggestions, or anything. I am damned lucky to be working with him, and I do what HE says.”
On Jul. 1, the band celebrated the 20th anniversary of “The Division Bell” album with a special reissue. The material on the upcoming album seems to be recordings from sessions of “The Division Bell” that have been expanded upon.
Rolling Stone has confirmed this project through a representative of Gilmour. The exact October date for this album’s release has not been revealed yet.
