Pitti Uomo represents many prestigious Italian menswear brands and is mixing their collaborations with designer department store Saks.
Pitti Uomo has already connected with department store, Isetan in Shinjuku, Tokyo and hopes to have success with Saks.
President of Pitti Immagine, Gaetano Marzotto, tells Fashion Mag, “Next year we will be announcing a new collaboration with American department store Saks, and we hope to multiply this type of collaboration with other chains.”
Marzotto started his collaborations with department stores for the fact that it is easier for his brands to make sales and profit from their brands.
“International distribution is in the process of changing and now follows new types of logic. Department stores are less important than big shopping malls, which rent or sell them spaces. The new challenge for companies is to manage these spaces. While for smaller brands this is more difficult,” he says.
Pitti Uomo deals mainly with smaller Italian labels, which makes this a perfect opportunity for them to show off their works. His ultimate goal though is for the brands to be able to join the fair trade and stand on their own with their own stores. This is just the first step in his plans.
Over a hundred menswear brands are represented by the Pitti Uomo company and if things follow similarly to how the brands were launched at the Japanese department store, consumers at Saks may have the chance to pre-order exclusive pieces from the various brands before they hit stores.
