As soon as we found out that Miss Nicki Minaj would host MTV’s 2014 European Music Awards, we knew that there would be at least one tweet-worthy moment, guaranteed. What surprised us, though, is that current pop sensation—and (officially) girlfriend of rapper Big Sean—Ariana Grande made the biggest splash at the awards, which were held in Glasgow, Scotland for the first time ever.
On the red carpet, Grande chose a formfitting gown with sheer inserts and keyhole cutouts. But what everyone could not stop talking about wasn’t her outfit, but her hair! Foregoing her signature parted ponytail hairdo, Grande went straight and sleek with her sombré locks—literally letting it down, completely.
Even when she performed multiple times throughout the night (her silver, futuristic jumpsuit and thigh-high boots also were a memorable look of the awards), or accepted her two awards (for best female performer and best song), Grande let her hair cascade all the way down while the Internet promptly blew up (at least, with comments).
So what’s the verdict here? Can everyone finally rest easy that Ariana Grande has left the scrunchies at home? Or did we like her signature do? I guess we’ll have to wait and see what she does next.
