Pretty Little Liars will run for at least seven seasons.
The book series alone is 16 books, so more seasons are necessary if producers plan to conquer all of their adventures. PLL is ABC Family’s longest running original TV series, and continues to see success long into the show’s running.
Tuesday night marked its season five premiere, and is still going strong. The next two seasons will appear one year apart, around summer time, as it has in the past. This is the first of Sara Shepard’s book series to get its own TV show; “The Lying Game” being the second one.
“I think the show is in line with the overarching theme of the books; they’ve just gone more into depth or explored different avenues.”
Shepard said in an interview with Good Reads that she continued the series because the readers loved them, and now ABC is continuing the TV show because of the love.
Tom Ascheim, the president of ABC Family said, “I am glad to bring another two seasons to our audience, because ‘A’ has a lot in store for our Liars.”
According to The Wrap who first reported on the renewal, the show averages of 3.8 million viewers, most of them in their late 20s to early 30s. These fans take to twitter frequently to express their feelings on what’s happening in each episode. Also, the show is the most-tweeted scripted series telecast of all time, and across all genres. It holds 7 of the Top 15 most-tweeted series telecast ever.
With all of the show’s drama, and whatever drama that’s yet to come, will be sure to keep fans buzzing on social media for the next few seasons.
